Ex-SLAYER Drummer DAVE LOMBARDO Collaborates With Film Composer/Producer TYLER BATES And British Synth-Wave Band GUNSHIP
August 21, 2026Renowned film composer/producer Tyler Bates has teamed up with British synth-wave band GUNSHIP and drummer Dave Lombardo (of SLAYER, MR. BUNGLE, MISFITS) for a new single collaboration, "Revolution.exe". Released on Bates's record label, Gravel And Echo Recordings, the track is hard-hitting, politically charged, and built around a pulsing hard rock, electronic backbone that channels GUNSHIP's signature retro-futurist sound alongside Bates's cinematic instincts. Its lyrics take direct aim at power, control, and complacency, centered on an insistently catchy hook.
"My history with GUNSHIP began a few years ago when we wrote 'Berserker' for the 'Dark Nights Death Metal' album," says Tyler Bates. "'Revolution.exe' picks up where we left off. Dave Lombardo's drumming is pure fire. This song is a banger. I hope y'all love it!"
The collaboration came together overseas, with Bates and GUNSHIP writing and producing remotely across time zones, mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Robert Carranza and mastered by Abbey Road Studios engineer Stefan Brown.
"Revolution.exe" launches Bates's new label, Gravel And Echo Recordings, into the spotlight — and hints at a wave of solo work and record production to come.
Tyler Bates is an American composer and music producer best known for his work on film scores, television series, and collaborations with iconic artists such as Marilyn Manson, EVANESCENCE, Jerry Cantrell, Alexis Krauss, MASTODON, BUSH and IN THIS MOMENT. With a career spanning over three decades, Bates has significantly influenced the sound of contemporary cinema and modern media.
His collaborations with directors such as Chad Stahelski, Zack Snyder, Ti West, Genndy Tartakovsky and James Gunn have yielded critically acclaimed scores for blockbuster films, contributing to over a dozen Number One movies and generating several billion dollars in global box office revenue. From Rob Zombie's "The Devil's Rejects" to the stylized superhero chaos of "Deadpool 2", Bates's range has made him a leading force in cinematic sound design.
Bates co-produced and co-wrote Marilyn Manson's 2015 album "The Pale Emperor", 2017's "Heaven Upside Down" and the singer's latest two efforts, 2024's "One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1" and 2026's "One Assassination Under God - Chapter 2", and has toured with Manson as a guitarist.
Bates, a film composer best known for his scores for such blockbusters as "Atomic Blonde" and "John Wick" and "Guardians Of The Galaxy" flicks, originally met Manson through his work on the Showtime series "Californication".
Lombardo was born in Havana, Cuba, relocating to Los Angeles when he was a mere two years old. He began playing drums as a teenager, and co-founded SLAYER (and created the band's logo) in 1981. Rolling Stone, in their list of the "100 Greatest Drummers Of All Time," dubbed him the "Cuban speed demon," Modern Drummer proclaimed him "The King", and Drummerworld gave him the title of "the godfather of double bass". Lombardo's eye-popping resume includes over 100 studio albums/recordings and includes both recorded and live stints with GRIP INC., FANTÔMAS, SLAYER, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, VENAMORIS, MR. BUNGLE, MISFITS, John Zorn, TESTAMENT, EMPIRE STATE BASTARD and DEAD CROSS.
Lombardo was effectively fired from SLAYER after sitting out the group's Australian tour in February/March 2013 due to a contract dispute with the other bandmembers. He was later replaced by Paul Bostaph, who was previously SLAYER's drummer from 1992 until 2001.
